Story
Synopsis
One terrible day Min, a young Korean man, is confronted by Japanese soldiers who have occupied his village. It opens with a scene of him covered in blood in a small village church. We are also introduced to Sunja, a young village girl. Sunja is bodily forced to bow before the image of the emperor. The entire village is forced to renounce their faith or to be executed. In the face of oppression Min is deeply impacted by the sacrifice of those who died before renouncing their face. In shame he looks the the role model of his friend, finding strength in prayer as the church they are in is locked up and set aflame.
The story 'Pray My Children' is one part of a longer script being prepared which follows the trials and fate of young Sunja.

Notes - Gyu
Pray my Children is a story about faith and the resilience of people in the face of oppression. The setting for the story is 1935 in Pusan, South Korea. It is inspired by the true story of the founders of one of the most respectful Christian universities in Pusan. They survived through the time challenging and questioning their faith and founded the school. Also, the story is about the freedom to believe in anything. I believe that such freedom should not be oppressed no matter what. This is a story from the shadow of Korean history which needs to be told. Also, I think it is important that as part of the Korean community in New Brunswick that I share the history and culture of Korea.
